Fused Glass Mural at Webster Stanley Middle School, Oshkosh, WI
Spring 2013
In March 2013 for Youth Art Month, I was honored with an opportunity to teach glass fusing at Webster Stanley Middle School in Oshkosh, WI, courtesy of a grant from SOAR.
We had a one-day workshop, where 90 students created one 4"x4" tile for themselves, and one for the mural. The mural was designed to fit into two windows above the office near the entrance.
The students were given free choice for the individual tiles; for the mural tiles, they learned about analogous color theory. Later on in the day, art club members came in to create the 4 season center panels they had designed, 10"x12" each. After all 100 pieces of the mural were fired, they were ready to be adhered to the tempered glass pieces and installed.
Thank you to SOAR of Oshkosh and Webster Stanley Middle School for the opportunity. I hope the students can take pride in the beauty of their work for generations to come.
