About

Artist Statement

Picture
My relationship with art has evolved over the years, with the early years fueled by a primary need to express, communicate, and create, as all children do. After developing my artistic skills through academics and experience, I eventually lost sight of why I create, and instead sought perfection to the point of completely silencing myself. I had to learn to break free from self-imposed shackles, and it started with going back to daily creative pursuits, whether they ended up being show-worthy or not. Creativity is a gift to all of humanity, and not limited to those of us who call ourselves artists.

It is a remarkable feat to attain a high degree of skill to distinguish yourself from your peers. However, I believe it’s a far more valuable skill to apply your talent in ways that fosters connection to your fellow man. To hold a space of compassion and dignity for each other’s creative journey, wherever each of us may be. And to remember that art is a language, to understand ourselves and each other better.

Let us be signposts rather than gates on each of our walks, and let the beauty of creative expression bridge our worlds.

Biography

Picture
Kelly Seidl is an artist and educator from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, specializing in photography, painting, glass, and sculpture.

Her journey began early on in childhood, which was filled with studying bright & soft illustrations, watching Bob Ross, creating anything she could get her hands on, and running feral in the woods and on the lakeshore. It was the perfect recipe for developing a lifelong fascination with the beauty of art and nature.

Kelly has spent the last 19 years studying, creating, and teaching art. She has shared the joy of art with people of all ages and abilities in private and public institutions, as well as home studios. Her training includes a BA in Studio Art & BFA in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and a 3 year glass apprenticeship at WosArt. Whether she was working as a starving artist painting murals through tummy grumblings, traveling across the country for art exhibitions, or working in prestigious institutions sharing fine art experiences, the power to connect through visual language has been the common thread.

She lives in Oshkosh, with her husband and daughter, who both serve as an endless source of inspiration to keep creating, for the joy, the memories, and the connection.
